In October 2011, Ellen met with 1st grade teacher Deirdre Elmansouri to begin planning a mural project with her 1st grade class. The mural will be placed in the library above rows of books, hence the literary theme.
Session 1: The class drew pictures of their favorite characters from books they've read.
Session 2: Ellen and the students created a rough composite drawing on butcher paper.
Step 3: Ellen created a final composite using the students drawings and the students colored it in.
Ellen gridded the panel and transferred the line drawing using charcoal.
Sessions 4-7: During January and February 2012 the students painted the mural.
Ellen varnished the wall with vanish.
