In April 2009, Ellen met with Katy Schutz and PTA president Shannon Webb of Pescadero Elementary school to schedule a 6-session mural project with 24 students from Katy's 4th grade class. They chose the theme "Coastal Creatures". The mural project was funded by a donation from the South Coast Artists Alliance.
Session 1: the students drew their impressions of Coastal Creatures.
Session 2: Ellen, Katy and her students created a rough composite drawing on butcher paper.
Session 3:
Ellen created a final composite and the students colored in the composite drawing (on vellum).
Ellen gridded the drawing, then the wall, and transfered the drawing to the wall in charcoal.
The next 4 sessions were for painting.
The completion of the mural project was celebrated on the last day with group pictures and musical entertainment!
