In November of 2008, Ellen was invited to be a member of a special team of muralists commissioned to reproduce two 28' x 32' murals for the SF MOMA Art in the Atrium Exhibit designed by Chigago artist Kerry James Marshall. They are based on 2 4' x 5' Paintings by Mr. Marshall.
The Precita Eyes Muralists painted in the MOMA Atrium from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily for two weeks, from February 9-23, 2009.
Specially commissioned for SFMOMA, Kerry James Marshall's monumental murals in the Haas Atrium show Mount Vernon and Monticello, the estates of American presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Although these cherished sites have been depicted countless times, Marshall's paintings stand apart by incorporating images of the slaves who supported plantation life. At first glance, a number of optical tricks conceal them from view, but visitors who engage in the artist's visual game will discover the otherwise invisible figures who are so often omitted from representations of American history.
